handphones dependency; has it taken our your life yet?

can you survive a day without your handphone?

a bet no one can.... nowadays. compared to the older generation, many years ago, having a mobile phone was a privillage. but i guess today, many people are dependent on it, to do almost everything from communicating with others via calls or text messaging to listening MP3s and snapping photos. for some, handphone is a luxury. some many, it's a need!

i look at it as a luxury. i own my first phone about 3 years ago, when i entered college. and it was important for me to contact my collegemates, as we had lots of assignments that requires us to keep in touch constantly. and it is good to know that you CAN actually contact someone when the public phone is busted. but today, school kids as young as seven years old can have the latest-colour-screened-Bluetoothed-camera-True-tone handphone at a reasonable (?) price.

but ask people like JUSTIN or OLIVER. they can tell you that handphone do not need to be a necessityin your life. i can remember at one point, where when Justin had his handphone, no one contacted him. just contradictory to what his friends told him. *sigh* i feel you, brother!

anyway, last week on LATTE @ 8 (dated 24th March 2005), Jason Lo had this guy, Selva Gunappan as a guest. he's the author of "Handphone and SMS Etiquette." i think he made a good point about the fact that handphones are becoming a nuinsance in a society today, and we need to learn ethics regarding the usage of handphone, with anyone, anywhere and anytime.

and recently, there was an article in the IN-TECH section of THE STAR newspaper (dated 29th March 2005) that states that many of us can't remember the phone numbers that we have, and rely too much on the mobile phone to store contacts. makes sense, since the numbers i can recall is my house number, Kevan's, Justin's, my dad's and my own HP number. what about you?

so, have you been too relient to your phone, yet?

'Happy' Good Friday?

yesterday was Good Friday. apparently, it's celebrated on the last Friday of March every year. and Aaron and i sort of had a short discussion before i went off to Ampang with Ignatius for Home Group.

"should we wish people HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY?" asked Aaron.
"hmm... i'm not sure," i replied. "but i don't think it's appropriate to call it like that."
"oh, i've told a lot of my friends that lah," said Aaron.
"ah, it's ok lah. anyway, err... Good Friday to you?" i told him.
"Good Friday to you too," he went zooming off.

well, at Home Group yesterday, i shared something regarding this day. it went something like this:

"do we wish people Happy Good Friday...? anyway, what makes Good Friday significant? if you remember when our Agong passed away about 3 years ago, it was announced a national holiday, for us to mourn for his death (and to enjoy a day off for others.) but let's see, when figureheads of other religion died, people mourned too. when Nabi Muhammad went off, followers and family members mourned, probably many, many weeks. and the same thing happened when Gautama Buddha left his own group of people. but do you see followers of them celebrating their death now?

so, i guess what sets us, Christians from the others in celebrating the death of Jesus Christ, was the fact that He rose from the dead. he walked again on Easter. a sinless man, how died for our sins, we who aren't worthy for his love and grace, conquered death. amazing, eh?"

and the fact that Christ rose again, is the foundation of our faith.

anyway, HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY (though today's Saturday) and have a WONDERFUL EASTER tomorrow. GOD BLESS!~

*yawn* have you called your friends lately?

i've received a call from one of my close buddies, Justin today. and i'm really, really happy. and why am i?

well, it's been more than a month since he left for Australia to further his studies. more info HERE. and he called me this afternoon. and i'm really happy to talk to my friend, as we talk for more than half an hour about how we are now. well, then something got me thinking: i rarely contact my friend.

it's weird, but i'm not a person who normally go to the phone, and calling up people just to say "hi." almost every call i make is to ask or to tell something of importance. i think i'm not a phone chatter. do you think it's weird for a social butterfly like me not to chit-chat on the phone?

my modus operandi is face-to-face chatting, e-mailing, SMS and at times using MSN Messenger. why? i have no idea. probably is because of the fact i prefer words to voice, and i do find writings from one to be as personal as a phone call gets. i can talk and talk for hours at mamak, but not over the phone.

i've a lot of friends that i have not contact in years! how about you guys? i might pick up the phone, and call them... ONE DAY.

by the way, sleep deprivation can make you moody. read HERE. and i'm going to post an entry about HANDPHONES! stay tuned!

unearthly hours of the day.

well, i'm up till this time of the day, despite having lots of stuff to do, and feeling a little fatigue. i had lots of laughter, jokes and drinks with Aaron and Lai Seng. you basically wouldn't know a lot about someone till you talk to them! but nonetheless, i'll try my best to get some things done. i believe most of the youth these days are awake in the unearthly hours of the day, and yawning in classes. i think i've mention something like this HERE.

i've got class later, and i'm determine to enter in class time EARLY! plus, Nic, Lily and i have got to discuss our assignment later! we're doing a talk about "Metrosexual and the comparison to Straight and Dandy Man." can anyone help us, please?

I've got it recently: Kingston 256 MB USB Flash Drive. convinience at the tip of your finger!

i've got the CD!

.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST COMPLETE BEST

as i'm typing this entry, i'm listening to the CD above! after many weeks of searching, and re-searching, i've finally got it! i purchased it the moment i saw it on one of the shelves in S&M, and it was worth the purchased! i'm blissful. to Justin in Australia, read this:

"i've got the CD! yeah!~"

anyway, i've been quite busy this week, and this is my first entry for the week. well, i've been blessed in a few ways lah this week, that makes me wanna jump and shout, "Praise the LORD!"

i'm done with my Culture & Religion Studies presentation, which... i'm done with lah! teaming up with Mei and Alex was great lah. i would want to work with them in future assignments, provided we get it done ASAP!

besides that, CF this week was great, as we had the gang from FAM/Sg Long CF here, and we had a great time of knowing people, prayer, games and MAKAN! and the Recruitment Drive couldn't pull my spirit down with them around!

plus, i'm recovering from my "assignment-lag" as i didn't sleep the whole night two nights ago., can't believe i slept through CSI last night. but i'm recovering. and i need to spend my time wisely to get all my assignments, presentation, revisions and other important tasks done.

plus, if you've read the letters in THE STAR yesterday, you've noticed what was posted there. yes, it was written by me, Bernard "BlurChu?" Cheah. must they put my NAME there, while i rebuke that letter? *sigh* here i go, becoming more and more infamous!

and FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST is awesome. not only is this soundtrack wicked, the anime is awesome too! one of the reason i love it is because even the protagonist hates being short! hahaha!~

PS i've posted the pictures for one of my entries, HERE. it has group pictures taken with Ken Ming, and another with Justin! check it out!

HA! see that?

have you seen that advertisement on TV?

let me give you a brief summary about it.
it basically shows this selfish guy, sitting down in a crowded PUTRA LRT and putting his baggages on the seat next to him. then, came an old lady, followed by a pregnant mother, and later a blind man. he acted like what most of us will do: reserving the seat for himself, and when the ones who needs it most comes along, pretends to sleep. and when he drops one of his boxes, the blind guy picked it up for him, and he was stared on with disbelief and possibly digust be others. and he was indeed embarassed!

yeah, that advertisement. watched it before?

it was directed by Yasmin Ahmad, for the Kempen Budi Bahasa dan Nilai-Nilai Murni under the Art, Culture and Herritage Ministry. the review about that ad was in THE STAR newspaper yesterday, 8th March 2005, in StarTwo, Pg 19 (written by Melody L. Goh). check it out!

i give this ad and the ones for the "Tak Nak" Campaign two thumbs up!

hectic 'R' i!

i've been really busy nowadays. and being in university isn't something easy. it's a constant, daily challenge! so, for you folks out there who are still in school, and want to get out of school; my advise is to STAY IN SCHOOL!

i had three midterms the past week and two assignments to hand in. and the following weeks aren't getting any kinder either. plus, i have a tonne of workload, a lot of responsibilities and me have very little time. i think i post up something like this
here.

i realised that i have a lot of stuff that i want to post up here, and i wanna type an article or two for the Columnist competition in my faculty and a t-shirt design for UTAR. i need God's help and strength in this. probably wisdom as well.

as busy as i am, i want to sleep.

pathetic radio = unrhapsody me.

a few days ago, something dastardly happened: my radio broke down.

well, not exactly broke down, just that the CD part is malfuctioning. i can't play any CDs now. that means no lullabies to cradle me to sleep. and most of my Christian music is on CDs!*sigh*

however, thank goodness there a bunch of Christian cassettes at home! praise the Lord! now, i can still listen to cool music in my room, and not always turn on to Radio 4.

i should get a new CD player.

NARUTO: GREATEST HITS, the new CD that i wanna hear on my oh-not-so-reliable-now radio

DC Talk: Intermission, one of the many cassettes i have at home.

Love & Peace!~
