traumatic tragedy.

till today, the death toll has rised to more than 130,000 victims. that's how much the recent quake, tsunami has claim up-to-date. yeah, and i am as shocked as you to see how many life just vanished as quick as the tidal waves came in.

i was at camp when i heard the news, and saw on tv how fruocious the incident was. i was dumbfounded. this is an event that wouldn't be off people's minds for a few months to come.

why did this happened? i don't know? why does God allow this to happened? i don't know. but what i know is there IS a reason/purpose why it did. i guess only God knows. but i'm not pulling my faith of God because of this. everything happens for a reason.

but a question arises: how close are we to the end?

Christmas; from the view of a Christmas celebrater!

25th December 2004.

it was Christmas Day.

i was involved in a few events. and this was how my day was.

i played the bass guitar for the main services. i was late for prayer, while was bad as ont only did i not arrived on time, but i was a letdown to my presentation members for coming late. yes, i was involved in a presentation too.

i wasn't prepared for the 1st service, and while asking help from Justin and Ignatius, i just played along with the music, if you know what i mean. but i did better in the second service. and after that, i was involved with the pantomime. the whole thing was lead by me, but it couldn't be done without the help, support, time and ideas from these great youths. i would like to express my deepest appreciation to Serene, Sheena, Triny, Ian, Fergeson, Tommy, Shawn, Nicholas, and Daniel Loo for all that!~ we pulled it off, dudes! we did this act also for the second service and the Power Kids. unavoidalbe flaws here and there, but it was great overall!

saw Melissa Lian, Christine Lim and Tracy during the first service... wish James was around though. he sent me an sms, saying he was sick, possibly dengue fever! wish him speedy recovery!

got the girls to braid my hair before the service ended, and as the second service ended, the bassist had braided hair! hahaha!~ wasn't around for free lunch after the whole event, cause i was preoccupied with the pantomime before that, and the queue was too long. but i did cipher some food from Daniel Sim, Jonathan Chia and Brandon! hahaha!~ went back home and slept out of fatigue.

oh, and later in the evening, was caroling! we gathered in church at 6:30 pm, and left in two seperate groups. i was in the same team as Justin's Bukit Indah Home Group, plus Kevan, Silas and Fergeson. we really had a great time, going from house to house, not only to makan, but to spread the news about the true meaning of Christmas to everybody present! that was awesome!

we did a few wacky things, like scarying the girls with both nearly empty and empty Snow Spray tins, the small "flame-thrower" act, joking and miggling around, and also makan! the food was great, especially at Sis Karen's house. we were served with glutinous rice and mango with santan milk. that was superb! by the time we reach Sis Anita's house, we couldn't take in anymore food.

at the end, the two groups ended in Pastor Ronnie's house, and we carolled (and rapped!) at our best there! we all got back home about 12:30 am plus... and it was boxing day.

did i have fun? oh yeah!
but it doesn't mean you need to do a lot on Christmas to enjoy it. Christmas is NEVER, EVER boring, when you know the true meaning of it: the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

BC?

the eve to a busy, wonderful day.

hmm... it's kinda interesting what happened yesterday.

well, i was suppose to get up early yesterday, since i had an appointment with Angel to discuss about the CF activities in Sg. Long faculty at 9:00 am, and later watch a movie with Aaron and Enoch. KUNG FU HUSTLE was the suggested movie.

i got up at 10:40 am, when Stephen called me, enquiring whether i was free or not? i told him i was free to meet up with him. so, it was set, to see him in Sg. Wang at 12:30 pm. time was later changed to 1:30 pm because he wanted to meet some other friend.

called Aaron, and told him the possibility to watch the movie later. he said see how things go.

was in Sg. Wang at 1:00 pm. called up Aaron to get for me the t-shirt from the shop Esther was working at. apparently, Lydia, her twin, was there too, and i couldn't get the t-shirt i wanted for a cheaper price, neither can i get it in red. at least it's RM 33 worth my cash!

met up with ever-funny-and-wacky Stephen, and later had lunch with him, and his friends, Elmon and Ian (don't know if it's the right spelling... cause Ian's a girl!). talked about Omegatrend, which sounds really, really interesting and worth investing in, but was more interested in the fact that this young couples are Christians who have great testimonies to share... i mean, beside the ones regarding their business. at least i felt comfortable with them, compared to some people i talked before about business, cause there wasn't any "real" fellowship there.

followed and helped Stephen with shoes selections later, and had lunch at KFC. finally, got my TEENVANTAGE card upgraded to TAG Card. had an insightful and deep talk with Stephen. gave me a better view of a church youth and what we need to do for it. really helpful!

later, we went around shopping for presents (yes, guys DO shop!). and when to Masjid Jamek and Central Market to look for more stuff. Sg Wang was crowded by 8:00 pm, with passerbys, sellers and lots of snow-sprays-in-a-tin. got a red Hawaiian shirt for caroling later (should have bought the RM 7 one instead of paying RM 8 more for a pocket on the shirt! SILLY ME!).

made my way to Kevin and Rachel's place by 10:00 pm, and lightly feasted and chatted there, with Angeline, Mabel, Russell, Silas, Xiang Xing, Xiang Gin, and the hosts. went back slightly before 12 am, and talked to Angeline about being in UTAR.

anyway, took my shower (and the clock striked 12! first time celebrating Christmas in the toilet!) and chatted with people like Yih Ren, Weng Woy, Boon Gee, Kelvin, Sharon, Karen, and Pooi Chin! oh yes, Pooi Chin wanted me to mention her name in my next blog. so...

POOI CHIN <------ your name in my blog! yippie!

hahaha!~

anyway, it's a big day tomorrow. i'm involved with praise & worship band, playing the bass, and later doing the presentation for the services (including for POWER KIDS!) later at night, there'll be caroling! and lots of sms and electonic greetings to reply back!

oh, what fun day it is today! for it's your birthday, JESUS!~

and let me get some sleep... gosh, it's 3:25 am!~

a challenge!

it's 4:10 am in the morning now.

just got back from a drink with Justin and Michelle. and i drank a cup of iced Milo and bandung ais. no teh ais, or ice tea. in my fourth day of no-tea-drinking week. i'm abstaining for teh ais.

yes, abstaining from tea!

and yes, a confession to make; i am a TEA ADDICT! although i prefer tea over coffee when being asked, i tend to drink a cup of tea too much. i'll be ordering teh ais 9 out of ten times. it comes automatically and i unconsciously order that drink each time i sit down in the mamak stall or the malay stall. and i think i'm getting addicted to this stuff.

therefore, this challenge arises. i'll try to avoid drinking anything that has tea in it. i'm coffee intolerent, so trying not to drink coffee is a piece of cake. and i'm trying to see how my body reacts to the lack of tea.

what do you think the results would be? will i be able to pass this challenge? stay tuned!

teh ais, my addiction!

iced tea.... maybe iced lemon tea. whatever it is, it doesn't change the fact that there's TEA involved!

CAM CAM: the CF Planning Retreat.

* this will also be posted up in the CF website, www.utar.shyper.com!
** pictures will be in soon.
*** CAM CAM, as it is a CAMp in CAMeron Highlands!

(DAY 1)

It’s Saturday, 11th December, 5:30 am, and Aaron’s awake. It’s the day of the CF planning retreat in Cameron Highlands. All three of us, Hui Wen, Aaron and I, packed the essential stuff, and went off to PD block, where we were suppose to gather there at 6:30 am, according to someone. Reaching at 6:30, Leanne, Martha and Mary were only there. Oh, the Malaysian timing strikes again!

Well, we got off UTAR grounds after getting proper information and some breakfast (courtesy of Ms Stephanie!). I was in the Kembara with Lai Seng, Ms Siew Peng, Leanne and Martha. With good weather and minimum traffic on our side, we went off!

Some people got lost on the way. They missed the pit stop! So, we have to chase after them, and waited for others… whilst we waited, we came up with Step-one-and-step-two contingency plan. Fortunately, this plan to wait for the unfortunate ones was scraped!

We arrived at Cameron later than expected, had lunch at one of the shops. We were about 2 hours late, I think, but it was okay! Later, we reached our destination. Once we reached Barre’s rest house, we started the programs, ice breaker by Ms Angelina. An insightful ice-breaker I might add.

Had a break, and when we continued the session, we started of with a small skit, “Jesus in the car boot.” Is sort of true lah, how we tend to take control of our own life, and not letting Jesus drive our lives.

Transparency circle session was the following event. Here, we were each given a piece of paper with the names of all those there, and we are to talk one on one with all the people there. Though I managed to talk to only about 5-6 people in that two hours session, but it was a good talk!

Discussion on the shared value, split into two groups. While we discussed, fly interrupted Lai Seng! Hahaha!~ I’ll never ever look at the fly the same way again! And after a few minutes, we gathered together and combined notes. We all had the discussion about shared value, went on for more than 3 hours.

Slept late, was really burnt out.

(DAY 2)
Got up early the next day. I Praise & Worship lead, with Michelle and Christy playing the guitar and piano respectively for me. It was a Sunday service, the sermon was done by Bro. Stephen, which was about UNITY. Hmm… just the topic we need to hear.

After lunch, we discussed about Vision, Mission and Goal. Not so really focused on the talk. *oops*

Went out around Cameron Highlands later for sight-seeing and to get some stuff, bought strawberry jam, strawberry ice cream, and lots of cactus! Aaron left us for KL. He has to work.

Had dinner, discussed about the organization structure at night, went out again at night. Bought flowers for the girls, had honey coated strawberries on a stick. We then watched a short documentary about a homosexual.

Continued my quest of transparency circle, but wasn’t that successful. And later, I was debating with Lai Seng and trying to figure out about John 15, the devotion verse for the next morning. Slept late, again.

(DAY 3)

Fatigue took over my body. Was all geared up to go home. We had breakfast, and discussed on the new organization structure, that would be implemented this semester. We then packed up our luggage, while the new main committee continues discussing some issues.

We went a long, long way, and had lunch, consisting of roti canai and fish, chicken curry and dal gravy. Durians were tempting us, but we abstain for better durians a few days later, YUMMY!

Got back to KL about 7 pm. It was tiring, but fun! And the other trip to send Michelle home… THAT is another story in itself!

Lessons learnt:
1. When shopping in the market, bring along a bargainer with you.
2. In case a fly is around, remember not to talk/laugh/breath too much.
3. Don’t run on the floor mat and turn quick. You’ll never know how much gravity and friction can hurt you!
4. being polite wherever you are is GOOD!
5. I am coffee-intolerant.

6. there are a handful of radio stations available. Radio 4's fequency is 101.10 fm.

FRUITS BASKET, the review

* an article from my hi5.com account, where my blog passion sprouted. it's for everyone to read!
** i have not been updating my blog that often, according to some people. right, angel?
*** i realize i have tonnes of things to do! *argh*
**** post up about CAM2 soon!

i bet you people have heard of the fable of how the chinese animal zodiac came about, right?

well, one day, god told the rat that there's a feast in the heavens the next day, and was told to tell the other animals about the feast. so, the rat told all the animals, and decided to lie to the cat. the rat told the cat that the feast was to be held on the day after the next. and the cat was decieved! the next day, all the animals when up to the heavens. the rat reached the heavens 1st, after riding on the cow, followed by the cow, tiger, rabbit, yadda, yadda, yadda. but the cat was left out. that's roughly how the animal zodiac came about without the kitty in it.

since it was the holidays, i've decided to watch this series of anime, FRUITS BASKET, as my friend, michelle, said it was very, very nice and funny! oh, and the lead guy's name's YUKI! i hate that name (if you are a guy)! it's not a guy's name! *yucks!*

anyway, the story revolves around this gal, Tohru Honda, as she an orphan staying in a tent after her mom passed away. (check out the anime if you wanna know more!) and it seems that she has been living on the land of the Souma family, and Yuki Souma (err... he's the most adored *Prince* in the high school.) and he's cousin, Shigure Souma stays. (and the Souma family has a curse! hahaha!~ but lmore about this later. ) the weird thing about Yuki is that, although he really popular in school, he doesn't like to miggle around people, especially with the opposite sex! he doesn't like to be near them, and once rejected a girl who wanted to hug him! then, later, Kyo Souma, another cousin of yuki came showed up in his house, and fought with Yuki... and as expected, kyo loss to yuki, again. after the fight, Tohru accidently hugged Kyo, and...

*SPOILER ALERT*

kyo turned into a cat! and accidently *hugged* Yuki and Shigure, and they respectively turned into a mouse and a dog! it seems that the siblings of the Souma family are cursed with the animal zodiac! and if hugged by the opposite sex, he/she will turn into an animal! there's a total of 26 episodes for this anime, and i think that this anime was adopted from the manga. more characters (or cousins) are introduced as the story unfolds. like Momoji Souma, the kid who enjoys wearing girl's dresses (i know... WEIRD!), the-all-mad-about-Kyo Kigure Souma, Yuki's older-crazy-and-of-more-confidence-than-an-average-human brother, Ayame Souma, and many other cousins.

it's really very funny. has almost every basic japanese humour in it! a good anime to get your mind off whatever you were doing. and it's not only funny, but almost each episode has a lesson or a food for thought. some where very meaningful, that i almost broke in tears! it teaches a little about life, and how to interact and accept people the way they are, to make the best of every situation, and many more meaningful lessons!

plus, the opening theme is rather slow, and relaxing. i like it! the only drawback i see in this anime is that it's more orientated for girls! and many of the guys in there are either *too pretty* or *too feminine*! *argh* but i see the glass as half full!

so, if you have nothing to do, or just an anime freak waiting for something to watch, this is just what the doctor ordered!

Characters from FRUITS BASKET! (from left) Kyo, Shigure, Tohru and Yuki.
