Beaten over the weekend?

No one was abused over the weekend, nor was there a fist fight which went on in a school.

But a lot happened over the weekend.

Melissa D and me were among those who helped Clictus at the Radiant Discovery Amusement Centre (game booth) during the Methodist Girls' School (Penang) Pestaria 2011 on Saturday!

While Melissa handled the Sudoku station, i was in-charge of the Bottle-up station. What is it all about? It's simple a carnival game where one has to make a glass bottle stand on a slanted platform by using a 'fishing rod' with a ring at the end of it.

But after arranging the bottle one time too many, and when the fund-raising event was over, we were all dead tired. But my ordeal started the following day, when my legs hurt like mad!

It was so bad, that i could hardly walk on Sunday!

And to add salt to the wound, this was what happened to my car while the Pestaria was going on.

Yes, someone actually hit into my car. Note that the excess part of the car IS NOT part of my car, but a souvenir left by the person who scrapped through my car.

What a day!

And not to mention, Barisan Nasional won two-third of the seats in the recent Sarawak state elections on that night

Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is sworn in as the Chief Minister. Again.

And there are those who were frustrated that BN is still the government in Sarawak.

But i was encouraged by what Pastor Palan said in church the follwoing day, that "God works in ways we do not understand."

Well, to look into these matters through another perspective, i believe not all's bad.

I mean, there are more seats held by the Pakatan Rakyat this time around, and some heavyweight, like SUPP's Tan Sri Dr George Chan took a beating from the elections. Maybe there's something bigger which is yet to come!

And at least i can still drive my car around, and it's just scratches on the side. My Werb Boom Boom can move fine!

And so does my legs... but it's time to hit the gym, and beat myself up to shape! And God is good!

Easter's coming. Just remember, Jesus Christ died for your sins, readers!

A Day

While waiting in traffic on the way to work, what else can you do besides listening to the radio, eating breakfast, scolding the slower driver who is holding up traffic and texting?

Because it was not raining... and i put the wrong setting.

Why were there so many cars at that time?
Because everyone is going to work or school... or somewhere.

Getting Blackberry-ed?

Last week, my colleagues and I were given instructions to sign-up for a Blackberry each.

Honestly, I'm happy to get a BB myself. It will be nifty to get work done will on the go without bringing the laptop around, and I'm accessible to the Internet (almost) anywhere! (Plus, I can blog more often... But that's a matter of discipline.)

But after we discussed with our KL colleagues, a few questions popped up - like whether the whole BB was paid by us or the company? Who'll pay for the usage? Does the BB ultimately belong to us or not?

We were a little worried.

No updates bout this yet. But will blog about it once the deal goes through.

Got this forwarded email from my friend Enoch Abraham several days ago, and it was hilarious.

Somewhat, it fits the timing now, with the state elections in Sarawak. Do read it with an open mind and a sense of humour.

Heaven vs Hell 

Whilst walking down the street one day a Malaysian “Boleh” Minister is tragically hit by a truck and dies. His soul arrives in HEAVEN and is met by St. Peter at the entrance. 

St. Peter: Welcome to HEAVEN. Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you. 

Yang Berhormat: No problem, just let me in. 

St. Peter: Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is you have to spend one day in HELL and one in HEAVEN. Then you can chose, where to spend eternity. 

Yang Berhormat: Really, I have made up my mind. I want to be in HEAVEN. 

St. Peter: I’m sorry, but we have our rules.

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down, down to HELL. 

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course.
In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it, are all his friends and other politicians who had worked for him.
Everyone is very happy and dressed in the finest batik there is. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then indulge themselves on lobsters, caviar and the most expensive food. 

Also present is the DEVIL , who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realises it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises. 

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in HEAVEN where St. Peter is waiting for him. 

St. Peter: Now it’s time to visit HEAVEN. 

So, 24 hours pass with the Yang Berhormat joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing.
They have a good time and, before he realises it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns. 

St. Peter: Well, then, you have spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity. 

Yang Berhormat: Well, I would never have said it before. I mean HEAVEN has been delightful, but I think I am better off in HELL. 

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to HELL. Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in a middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. 

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The DEVIL comes over to him and puts his hands around his shoulder. 

Yang Berhormat: I don’t understand. Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened? 

The DEVIL(smilingly): Yesterday we were campaigning just like you during an election…Today you VOTED.

Moral of the story? USE YOUR VOTE INTELLIGENTLY !!!

It's all part of the job.

As i was going back from Balik Pulau, this was the wonderful view i got to witness. Green, dipped with blue under the open sky and bright sun; it just reminds me how great and creative God is.

And why i enjoy my job.

I maybe running late on that day, almost crashed into the divider twice, and wasted a little time before i could get back to office, but i'm happy with what i do.

And i praise God for everything He has done for me. It's all in a day's job.

That one hour....

Between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, this was what i was viewing from my place.

So, did you support Earth Hour this year? Many did by turning off their non-essential lights, gathering outside in the public, and official, iconic buildings had their lights out to observe that one hour - to reflect on how we can conserve the energy and the environment... and not to mention to remember victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan.

But should we just leave it as a yearly event? Or should we put into practice to save energy and stop wasting resources? Remember, we do not inherit nature from our ancestors, we just borrow it from our children.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Had a good fellowship and 'fei-low'-ship time with family and friends yesterday, on the first day of the Chinese New Year.

Been spending time with my brothers, and it was good to catch up and see what is happening in their lives; not to mention the tales they shared as we munch down on burgers and fries at Carl's Jr.

I wish Melissa D was down here in KL with me, though. She was down in a fever, and i wish i could be by her side, taking care of her. Thank goodness she bounced back fast enough to visit her relatives.
And looks like from next year onwards, the tables will turn for both Melissa D and i, where instead of receiving ang pows, we'll be giving them. For now, anyone who asks me for an angpow, i don't mind giving them one... those empty, red packets, of course. Do wait lah!

Anyway, whether you believe it or not, may the year of the rabbit bring goodness, prosperity, love and joy be with you and your family always.

Staying home and online.

At this point, i'm away from the island.

Right now, i'm with my family in Rawang. Last year, my family moved from Sri Petaling to this place while i was away living/working on the island. Honestly, i'm adapting to this place as it is pretty far from town and friends. *sigh*

Anyway, as i am typing this entry, i wonder if i should continue blogging or not.

Most of the time, i spent updating is on facebook, and occasionally, i go on twitter. I honestly wonder if blogging is still the way to go with these social network sprouting out in the past few years, and more and more people going onto this bandwagon. Not to mention other websites such as tubler, flickr and so on which are available for uploading pictures.

For the moment, i would continue to maintain this blog, and hope to put in more effort into updating it.

Anyway, for those heading home for the Chinese New Year celebration, please get home safely, ok?

Second Bridge.

A view from the boat on the way to Batu Kawan, which i was on, as the passengers and we saw the based of the Second Bridge.

Recently, i got a chance to see the construction site of the Penang Second Bridge. Yes, the future alternative route which is about 24km long, can link both the state island and mainland together in a few years' time.

My counterparts and i travelled on boat from Batu Maung to Batu Kawan as part of our assignment. And although the authority in-charge, Jabatan Kedua Sdn Bhd said that the overall progress is a little behind schedule, they are confident that the RM3 billion bridge will be completed and up and running in a couple of years' time.

I got to see the piling work, and it is amazing how the base of what would be a huge bridge which commuters would use to travel within the state. Hearing the technicians explaining on how the piling works go, and how the bridge is constructed blow my mind away.

It reminded me about what it was stated in the Bible; that the wise man builds his house on the rocks, and the foolish man built his on sand. Foundation is that important, for it to be a solid structure and to avoid any untoward incident.

The story i wrote did not come out, but it was worth the experience to the a possible monument in the making, which can be told to the younger ones in the years to come.

I was there.

Of wrong cars and splatters.

Sometimes in life, when you're too focus on one thing, you blunder something else along the way.

Work was hectic on Thursday, and i decided to make my way back from the Courts on the island to the office. As i was walking, towards where i parked my car, i pressed the remote, but the car did not unlock itself.

As i got closer, there was still no respond. Repetitive pressing avail to nothing. I started to panic, and took a closer look at the car... only to realise that it was the wrong car! It was an identical silver Myvi SE parked along Love Lane then.

My car was parked a few blocks away. Embarrassed, i quickly moved to my own car, and to my relief, it unlocked as i pressed the remote.

On Friday and yesterday, i caused splatters around the place i stay (by the way, i'm renting a room from my friend Clictus, who's living next door here).

In the first incident, i stepped on a packet of ketchup (maybe), spewing the red sauce all over the wall in my room. Thankfully, it has been cleaned.

In the most recent incident, the splat was a result of a cockroach being slammed unto the wall as it entered the house here. I was focused on destroying the bug, and i delivered.

What 2010 was to me.

Being sandwiched between work and responsibilities, i'm taking a breather to write this down.

Yeah, a lot of people have penned down what last year was to them last year, but i'm doing it now.

Honestly, 2010 was a good year for me. If there's a term to describe how the year was to me, i would say it was a turning point for me.

In those twelve, i've learnt a lot from my relationships with my loved ones and friends, and from events that took place, both good and bad.

I would say i still have a lot to learn, but i've learnt the hard way about taking up responsibilities, resolving conflicts, communications, and what it takes to be a man. Please be patient with me, for God is not done with me yet.

And as i embrace the new year, i take this verse to heart;
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

What lies before me is unknown and scary, but with God, i place my faith and hope in the One who will bring me through this.

Knocked from behind.

The rear view of Werb Boom Boom. *ouch*

Without a cause, my car got hit from behind by a Kelisa driven by a blur-looking woman (no offence) as I was exiting into Burmah Road after work on Tuesday.

The other car was barely dented, but the same can't be said bout my car.

I didn't know the damage to my car until I examined it thoroughly.

After discussing, we agreed to not make a police report, and settling this outside the police station.

Just now, the dad and brother of the female driver took a foreman to assess the damage. The foreman then said it would cost about RM200 plus, and the cost is bared by the father.

I was at peace knowing my car will be fixed. But my friend Clictus warned me otherwise.

He shared with me about his friend who was in a similar situation, and let the guilty party fixed the car, only to have the parts replaced by inferior ones.

I shriek in silence, fearing the same incident could happen to me.

This could be a knock for me to be wiser. I pray it'll all be good.

Timed timing.

I can't believe i missed putting up a Christmas greeting here in the blog, so

BLESSED BELATED CHRISTMAS!

And since there're twelve days of Christmas (like the song), i'm not too late in wishing you, ya?

Christmas eve and Christmas itself this year was fun. Both Melissa D and myself, with the church children and youths (and young adults) visited houses and sang carols to the people in the houses.

Melissa D and me in the bus as we traveled from one house on to another in the island, caroling on Christmas eve.

Dressed in white tops, jeans and colourful ties/scarfs, we just had a fun-time singing out hearts out in the spirit of Christmas, without forgetting the reason of the season; the birth of Jesus Christ.

No turkey served, but we had good pasta in one of the houses!

And it was bizarre that many thought Christmas, which falls on Saturday this time around, was Sunday! With the church services and 'usual routines' most of us go through, many thought we would go back to work as usual the following day. *argh*

But it was fun to be able to help Clictus and his family entertain a group of children during a Christmas party held at the Teh's (which is where i'm currently staying), and i do learn a lot about rationing food, doing one's best and entertaining guests.

And Christmas this year marks the first year anniversary of the engagement between Melissa D and me. And honestly, there are a lot of things to work out before we can be married to one another. Many challenges ahead, but with our loves for God and each other, we can make it.

All in good timing, according to God.
