Space: A New Frontier for Malaysia

"To infinity and beyond!" exclaims Buzz Lightyear of Star Command as he zooms to the space.

Now, the same phrase can be hollered by Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, Malaysia's first astronaut (or at least Malaysia Boleh!). This 35-year old doctor will be launched into space tonight at 9.22pm with two other astronauts from the Kazakhstan.

Apparently, Dr Sheikh will be studying of the effects of microgravity and space radiation on cells and microbes, as well as experiments with proteins for a potential HIV vaccine while he's up there. That's a giant leap for Malaysians everywhere!

Hopefully, he and the others would go up the space station and return back to earth safely.

Anyway, in the news article, it is stated that,

"...Shukor, 35, will bring a "symbolic" load of Malaysian food to the space station, said Zulkeffeli Mat Jusoh, a program director for the Malaysian space program."

If he's up there for 12 days, i suppose he'll be celebrating Hari Raya on the orbit around Earth. Plus, he'll be sharing some Malaysian goodies with the other astronauts (read: Durian.) I wonder if the wonderful stench of the fruit would ever trigger off the Level 3 Security System on the Space station?

But nonetheless, remember this - in space, no one can hear you scream.

"...And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I’m not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I’m a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone..."

Love & Peace!~
