2009: It has been a ride.

After many days of thinking, i believe the most appropriate phrase to describe this year would be 'roller coaster'.

Since the beginning of the year up to now, it has been like that for me. The rush, moving up and down, the anticipation, climaxes (and anti-climaxes) and the crazy things i did on the ride.

Among events which occurred in this year includes directly observing several by-elections up north of Malaysia, my on-going work-life here on the island, my commitment in church as well as my relationship with my (now) fiancee. Other things include passing aways of several prominent people, relationship changes and status change.

Through these events, emotions were high and a lot were said, but i thank God that we managed to pull through them, but i believe we need to continue putting our faith in Him, as we are not sure what the future has for us!

For next year, i have a few resolutions, which includes:

a. Proper financial planning for the future of both Melissa D and me.

b. Improving my health, which means to be fitter, going down a size or two and perhaps losing weight.

c. Planning for the impending, simple wedding, and a wonderful marriage under the guidance of God, family and friends.

I have to admit, i enjoyed the ride, and i'm looking forward to 2010!

Happy New Year! May 2010 be a good one for everyone!~

"....Just look at me, Silly Me,
I'm as happy as can be-
I got a girl who thinks I rock.
And tomorrow there's no school,
So lets go drink some more Red Bull,
And not get home 'till about 6:00.

When I'm dancing with you
Tomorrow doesn't matter.
Turn that music up
'Till the windows start to shatter
'Cause you're the only one who can get me on my feet.
And I can't even dance...."

Taken from Orson's No Tomorrow.

Note: Once this post is up, both my fiancee, my friends and i will be at church for the Watchnite service, here on the island.

On the Fourth Day of Christmas, The Good Lord Gave to me....

... Four coloured pictures,
Three (hundred plus) people in church,
Two boxing gloves,
and one beautiful fiancee!

I just came back from dinner with my former university mates at Mid-Valley. It was great to see an 80% turnout, which i think is so far the highest, as i can recall. And the Kimchi was good.

And this would be the last time i'll be seeing them for the year.

Not to mention i was out with Justin Botak earlier for lunch in Brickfields ... and met the others, including Kevan, Angeline, Julius, Oliver, Sui Li, Shannon, Fergersan, Russell, Iggy, etc in church the day after Boxing Day.

Anyway, most of the pictures taken when i proposed to Melissa D is up on facebook, thanks to Jason Tan and Joshua Tay. And here are some of it.

The simple powerpoint presentation, which Pastor advised me to prepare. Also, Jim Brickman's The Gift was playing in the background!

That's me on one bended knee, as i muster up the courage to say this words, "Melissa Darlyne Chow, as i am on my knee, with this simple ring in my hand, will you marry me?" However, it just went, "dear, with this simple ring, would you marry me?"

Apparently, Melissa D, myself, and several others present in church, were overwhelmed. With tears in my eyes, and being emo, i just proposed! And she said YES!

Tears still coming out. Still pretty much emo.

For the pictures from the outing with my friends, i might take it from Pek Mei, or look up on Facebook, if they've uploaded it already.

And i've somewhat got a word to describe what 2009 was for me. I hope to be able to post it up on time!~

Good night.

"I could wish you joy and peace.
To last a whole life long.
I could wish you sunshine.
Or a cheerful little song
Or wish you all the happiness.
That this life could bring.
But I wish You Jesus, more than anything.

I could wish you leaves of gold.
And may your path be smooth.
I could wish you treasures.
Or that all your dreams come true.
And I could wish you paradise.
That every day be spring.
But I wish You Jesus, more than anything.

'Cause when I wish you Jesus,
I've wished you everything.

On the first Day of Christmas, the Good Lord gave to me, One Beautiful Fiancee!~

Both Melissa D and i are now engaged!

The proposal was made on Christmas Day in church, at the end of the church service. With everyone present witnessing the event, i knelt on one knee, and asked for her hand in marriage. And she said, "YES!"

It was overwhelming. Melissa, myself, and some among the congregation had tears welling up in our eyes.

Pastors said i've set a high standard in proposal among guys in the church, and i wonder if i've created enemies by doing so.

I'll update more on this later (and hopefully, with pictures!) For now, i've gotta go catch my ride back to KL soon!~

Happy Boxing Day, people!~

What was 2009 to me?

A few days ago, i've been trying to figure out what 2009 meant for me. For some, it has been a challenging year. For others, it was a mundane, routine year, pretty much the same for the past few years.

I'm still trying to look for a phrase, if not a word, to describe what this year meant to me. I hope to blog about it before 2009 bids farewell.

On another note, we've watched several movies recently, including A Christmas Carol, Bodyguards and Assassins, Ninja Assassin, Astro Boy... and 2012. And we have yet to watch Love Happens, Storm Warriors, Avatar, Sherlock Holmes and The Princess and the Frog. So many movies, so little time.

Oh, and we celebrated Shea Li's 24th birthday at Sakae Sushi on Monday and had BBQ with the cell group on Saturday night!

Anyway, once this entry is up, both Melissa D, myself and several dozen church members will be off caroling in the evening.

We'll be jollying until Christmas arrives!

To all my readers, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

One more week!

Seven more days to Christmas! And i still have a few more things to do! Let's hope everything can be done by then!

Three more working days, and i'm on leave for the rest of the year. Still thinking if i should come down to KL or not....

But whatever it is, i need to get some things done first!

7 more days to go....

It does bother me....

How do you write a testimony? A life story about how you became who you are as you are changed, once you've accepted Christ in your life?

Up to today, this have been nudging me, constantly. I'm stuck to a wall when i'm called to do so.

Honestly, i've been in a 'Christian family' since i was born, and i accepted Jesus into my life during a church youth camp in 1997. I was baptised in Form 3, together with Justin Botak and a few other friends.

I think if i have to share something, it would be about how i survived several incidents in the past, between 2006 and 2007, all thanks to God's grace.

One of the incidents, of course, involved the car accident which left me with a broken right humerus. It was a painful experience, but i did learn something from it, from the physical, emotional and mental aspects. I thank God i'm still alive.

Yesterday night, i volunteered in my friend Sharon's kindergarten as Santa Claus, something which i don't believe in. And the kids keep rushing forward with their hands open as they keep asking for the sweets i given out. It's like giving out free currency to them!

And currently, i'm recovering from a sore-throat, which still does bother me, a bit.

This past week....

As i'm typing this entry, the West Ham United vs Manchester United match is on tv, with Melissa D watching it, along with several thousand of Malaysian fans, in their (or their friends') homes or Mamak outlet.

Earlier, both of Melissa D and i met up with Giam for late dinner and had a nice chat about work in KL and other things. I'm so grateful he's up here now, or i'll be the only operative on the field here on the island for the next two weeks... together with my cameraman! Currently, my colleague is on maternal leave while my boss will be going off to India. But Giam is indeed a godsend, and i'll try my best to work together with him!

Before meeting up with Giam, we were at Melissa D's grandparents there, where her relatives had a potluck there, since one of her relative from US is back, and another came up to the island from KL with her family. Wish we brought the watermelon to dinner... maybe next time.

During the past week, my boss and i were covering the state assembly sitting here, and so did Melissa D and the other counterparts. It was dramatic, with the demonstration with the Chief Minister Lmi Guan Eng's portrait being burned, and the newspaper shooting scene and 'butt show' by the Head Opposition Datuk Azhar Ibrahim. It was dramatic indeed. It was fun, while it lasted.

After covering that for four days, Melissa D and i awarded ourselves with by watching movies and a shopping spree. On Friday, we watched Ninja Assassin and Astro Boy (almost) back to back at Queensbay Mall. Ninja Assassin was graphic and gore, not for the weak-hearted, and best viewed on DVD, if one would want to see maximum violent carnage. On the other hand, Astro Boy was a heart-warming 3D animation story, suitable for all children, although it was slightly modified from Tezuka Osamo's original manga.

Later, we bought several other things, including a pair of sneakers each, some books, and a six-CD Christmas complication set, which was a bargain!

Getting sleepy now. And Christmas is coming! Don't you feel the excitement?

2010 looms closer!

Soon, it'll be December, and soon, we'll bid goodbye to 2009 and welcome 2010. And if the Mayans are right, we've got a couple of years to enjoy before the world as it is, seizes to exist!

Melissa D, Joshua el-Lamo and myself watch 2012 last Friday, and it was mind-blowing. If earth were to end like this, peasants like us are very well doomed... unless if you're staying in Africa or you have 1 billion Euros (watch the movie, and you'll understand)! I think this movie made it into the 'Top 10 Must Watch Movie for 2009', for me, at least.

Besides that, the three of us, include many of our CG members, the youths and the rest of the church were involved with the Vacation Bible School, themed Crocodile Dock. I was there for the last three days, helping out in the Gator Games station, and it was sure fun... and very tiring. In fact, on the last day (yesterday), i had a bad headache and almost puked.

But i'm all up for next year's VBS, which will be held in June.

Anyway, there's the State Assembly sitting tomorrow, and from what i've heard, there will be fireworks (and blood?!). So, Melissa D, myself and our fellow counterparts are all psyched up for this!

And Christmas is coming, followed by the New Year! Yikes! So many things to do, so little time!~

Her Birthday.

Last Saturday, Melissa D celebrated her birthday.

Trying my best to be a good boyfriend, i organised a few things. Among them a surprise celebration after the combined Cell Group at church on the eve of her birthday, and dinner on her birthday.

I had a few other things planned, but i think i'll use them for another occasion, or her next birthday. After all, i can't use all my good cards in one sitting, ya?

Got some pictures up facebook, and this is one of them (pix by Dr Matt):

Me bringing the cake to both Melissa D (second from right) and Megan (second from left) as Joshua eLamo (right) plays the guitar.

Melissa (centre) and Megan (right) cutting the birthday 'cake-wannabe'. Me standing left as i held the cake up.

On the night of her birthday, the both of us had Japanese dinner at Miruko in G Hotel. The service was good, portions were small, and it was overpriced. Looks like we would be going to Sakae Sushi more often, but nonetheless, we had fun!~

Earlier that same day, we went jogging and picked her aunt, who arrived from US, from the airport. I had to go to church the same afternoon. I was dead tired that day!

Oh, and her sister-in-law just gave birth to a healthy baby on Monday... Jeshurun was his name, or was it Emmanuel? But i think both names are in, but i'm clueless about which comes first.

Puked.

Last Sunday night, i did just that.

After having lunch at Mizi Bistro with Melissa D and her parents, together with my papa and Ernest, who were up here last weekend, i was a little tired.

After seeing my family off, i then rested at Melissa's place. I vomited at her place later at night, not to mentioned having a headache at the same time.

A few months back, i threw up at my work place as well, and had to take leave office early. Not so good experience.

But there are a few things i learnt from this experiences:

1. When you're feeling like something's moving up your esophagus, you could end up throwing up.

2. If you're saliva suddenly tastes a sour, you're definitely going to puke in seconds.

3. Stand as close to the toilet bowl (bucket, or where you are going to puke) as possible.

4. Bend down, keep your head as far away from your body to avoid chunks landing on your attire.

5. Wash your mouth properly after each episode. Take mints, if possible.

In the end of the day, i don't enjoy throwing up. Neither do pregnant women or chemotherapy patients. It blows chunks (pun not intended).

Negativity.

This has been going on for awhile, but it has become more annoying, distracting and agonising - how people can back stab another in his/her presence by posting up hurtful comments, thanks to technology via Facebook.

Not sure why these people can do something like this. Do they find joy in putting down others? Are these people covering up their own insecurities by mocking others? Does bitter heart only spew bitter words? Are they cowards in facing others? Only they would know.

Both Melissa D and i are refraining from making 'mocking' and unkind statements on Facebook, but rather, post up encouraging and uplifting ones. We can try. With all bad things going on in the world, don't people need good things in their lives?

I read this manga Pluto, by Urasawa Naoki, which is superb. One of the most beautiful phrases spoken by Gesicht was, "Nothing is born out of hatred." And it's true.

I believe these people are also entitled to God's love, and mercy and grace, and everyone should treat one another with love (Luke 6:31).

With God's strength, i pray that i can be a source of positivity to the people around me, impacting them with God's love.

I try.

Before November caught us by surprise!

Yesterday was Halloween. Not to mention it was the end of the month before November decided to jump on us! And before we can blink our eyes, December will loom by, singing Christmas carols with its belly full of jelly.

Well, yesterday both Melissa D and i bought a quart of Blue Raspberry Sherbet and Hokey Pokey ice-cream from Baskin (with 31% discount, of course), and it was good. I think we'll slowly enjoy it for the next few days to come.

Earlier in the morning of the same day, we jogged in Linear Park. The weather was good, but i was a little tired as we bowled a couple of games the night before with our Cell Group members at Bukit Jambul; need to improve and score more points.

To make matters worse, we played badminton with our friends in the workline on Wednesday, and it did a number on us as we did not warm up or cool down properly that night. To add salt to the wound, both of us argued (yes, we occasionally do that) and we were not at our peak. But thank God all's settled, love prevails, God's mercy reigns and we're grinning from ear to ear as we hold each other's hand.

In mid-October, i manage to purchase a DIY book shelf and with a screw-driver and a drink, i got it assembled under 30 minutes. I feel like buying more things to assemble! Hmmm... perhaps when i move to another place.

The book shelf

At about the same time, i bought a mattress, and i'm happy with it!
I'm addicted to MouseHunt on facebook, and i'm happy with it!
I've got a girlfriend who cares for me and a job which helps me pay the bills, and i'm happy with that!
I've got family members and friends who cares for me, and i'm happy with that!
I'm happy about a lot of things in life, and i'm happy with that!

These a five things (actually, seven), that i can think of now, which i can thank God for.

Oh, my papa and Ernest will be coming up this weekend to meet me, Melissa D and her parents. Now, i need to try to persuade Rowen to come along. I pray all will go well. (Keeping my fingers crossed!)

New Mobile!

This afternoon, Melissa D and i together with Sin Chow and Ann Tan watched Inglourious Basterds at Gurney Plaza.

The movie's interesting and funny indeed, thanks to director Quentin Tarantino, as the movie pokes fun into the assassination of Nazi leader Adolf Hilter by a group of American Jews called

The action's decent, (and gory, if i might add), and has way too much dialogues in it. But funny, nonetheless. But do note its fictional!

For more information, click HERE.

And before that, both Melissa D and i went jogging around her neighbourhood.

Anyway, a few days back, i won myself a mobile phone from a DiGi event, where they launched their Turbo 3G mobile internet service, which kicks off on the island.

Yes, i got a new Sony Ericsson W760i phone, which is a slide Walkman phone by just entering a contest there. And until now, i'm still trying to get used to this handphone, which has the music-changing function by shaking it left or right... cool, eh?

The Sony Ericsson W760i

And up to now, i still feel amazed that i actually have this hp with me, although i have no idea how much it cost.

I really thank God for this new phone as the clam-shell SE phone i bought over a year ago failed on me. On Deepavali, it refused to turn on, forcing me to use my old phone. And now, the new mobile phone is in front of me even as i'm typing this entry. I just feel so happy; all glory to God!

I got the black one (right one), and it looks better than the other two.

However, i still plan to repair the other phone, less it would go to waste. October is ending soon, and 2009 is drawing to a close. Hmmm... i still have a lot to do bEfoRe the year ends!

Want a Miracle? Have Faith, and God will provide.

I was moved to tears (almost) when Pastor Sam Surendran from EPCC preached at church yesterday morning.

Using Acts 12:1-10, which talked about Peter being imprisoned but he was set free by an angel, Pastor Sam preached about his experiences in his life, where God has blessed him over and over again through various obstacles. This included the hardship both him and his wife (then girlfriend) had to go through in US, prayer for a new Toyota Unser and when his daughter was having high fever when two weeks' old.

Among the few things he pointed out was in order to have a miracle in one's life, one need to be part of a miracle, and should have a relationship with God, is like a father and child - where the needs of the child is always taken care of.

And sometimes, a miracle works out according to His will, not our own. As they say, God works in mysterious ways.

So, it's essential to have faith in God. To follow Him, and obey Him, like a child listens to the father.

There are a lot of things i'm worried about, and it lingers in my mind; like how to save up for the future, where do i stay, my relationship with my dear, the wedding, marriage, having children, financing the family, etc. But i just need to surrender all this to God, and let Him work my miracle(s) according to His will.

"...If I ever catch up with you
Im gonna love you for the rest of your life

All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you (all I need is a miracle)
All I need is a miracle, all I need is you...."

XI

I wonder how life will be like if you're still around.

Would i have chosen better paths in life?
Would i have been a better person?
Would i have seen life in a more positive light?

But now, i've those paths, i am what i am and i still see the glass half full and the silver linings in every cloud.

I'm still here, doing what i enjoy doing and being with the girl i love.

Do i make you proud, Mommy? I wonder if i have the courage to stand before you as who i am.

One day, we'll see each other again.

"Fare thee well
Trade in all our words for tea and sympathy
Wonder why we tried, for things that could never be
Play our hearts lament, like an unrehearsed symphony

Not intend
To leave this castle full of empty rooms
Our love the captive in the tower never rescued
And all the victory songs
Seem to be playing out of tune

But it's not the way
That it has to be
Don't trade our love for tea and sympathy
'Cause it's not the way
That it has to be...."

Run For The Nation 2008

I did it! I ran the race and finished it well!

Technically, it was more of completing one leg of the race of about 30 minutes jogging and praying here on the island.

Melissa D, Aunty Moy and myself were among the 1,700 odd runners participating in the Run For the Nation this morning. Besides us, Melissa D's brother Ericson participated as well, along with several other church members such as Steven, Sarah, Wai Wai and Pei Li. Oh, and Pastor Thom who was one of the people coordinating this event on the island.

What we did was walked around designated area for about 4km, as we suppose to pray for the area and the people there, as well as several prayer pointers given to us, which encompass the government, economy, education, etc.

Out of all who participated, about 92 participants run on the island. Divided into three groups, the first teams started off from different points at about 5am! Melissa D, Aunty Moy and myself formed one of two teams representing RGBC, and we started off near the old Sunshine Farlim about 9am.

Our route was from there, passing through Jalan Paya Terubong, going up near the Penang Hill lower station and ending near Asia Cafe. The journey was not easy. My dear and i did a little training, but it did a number on our legs. Even as i'm typing this entry, my legs still hurts and i'm very sleeping.

Well, the three of us jogged and prayed (me walking more as i carried more weight.) And as we were going along, it did showered for awhile. As we continued jogging and praying, i left like the rain was a vision; where the desert was thirsty for the rain, like the people here are thirsty and need God's Word.

Despite feeling tired, we continue to soldier on. Aunty Moy, Melissa D and myself, in this order, reached our destination within the stipulated time. I really praise God for the strength to bring us through this. We even walked a little more to church, which was the main gathering place after the run.

I was an experience, and if Aunty Moy, who is over 60 can pace herself well and jog and pray for 30 minutes, those half her age should not have any reasons not to join next year's run!

We're looking forward to next year's run, which falls on May 23! Do join and run for the nation!

Now, for sushi dinner with my dear!~

What i feel....

"...Dreams theyre for those who sleep,
Life is for us to keep,
And if youre wondring
What this song is leading to

I want to make it with you
I really think that we can make it girl.

No, you don't know me well,
In every little thing only time will tell,
If you believe the things that I do.
And well see it through.

Life can be short or long,
Love can be right or wrong,
And if I choose the one
I'd like to help me through,

I'd like to make it with you...."

Fall For You by Secondhand Serenade

Whatever it is, relationship(s) requires constant effort, love, communication and understanding between two people for it to be maintained. Not forgetting, God should be part of the equation as well. Without these elements, it will lead to nothing.

Well, whatever it is, we need God's mercy and grace in our daily lives.

I survived!

I can’t believe I manage to survive two things: The tremor from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Padang, West Sumatra on Wednesday evening and World Vegetarian Day yesterday.

Let’s start off with the latter – I spent the day being a vegetarian yesterday.

Technically, I abstained from any kind of meat for one day to observe this day. So, how did I do it. Here’s what I had yesterday:

For breakfast –Two slices of bread with pasta sauce and a cup of yogurt.

Lunch –Vegetarian banana leaf rice and teh tarik

Dinner – a Veggie Delite Subway sandwich and mango pudding.

Supper – plain tosai and teh tarik

Snacked on nuts and buns also.

Well, I believe there’re many ways to go meatless for one day… it’s tough, but I survived. Not to mentioned my colleagues had pizza for lunch! But nonetheless, I would want to try to reduce meat, if not completely eliminate it, from my meals. It’s a challenge, but if it helps me with my health, I’m willing to try.

Well, World Meatless Day falls on Nov 25. Let’s see if I can make it, again!~

Anyway, on Wednesday, I experience was it was like to feel an earthquake. As I was sitting in front of the computer, I felt ‘the room’ moving a little. And as I focused, I could see the window blinds moving. And it hit me – I was in a midst of an earthquake… which appeared on the news. The tremor was even felt by Melissa D at her home in Rifle Range!

Fortunately, no one was injured here in Malaysia and there was no tsunami here on the island; just big waves which were non-threatening. But I sympatise with those who lost their family and loved ones in the quake in Indonesia. What a disaster. My prayers are for them.

I wonder if these have anything to do with the climate change?

Determination!

Besides following Bleach, One Piece and Naruto (and several other mangas!), I recently picked up Bakuman by Ohba Tsugumi (author) and Obata Takeshi (aritst). Ohba wrote the storyline for Death Note as well, while Obata was the same mangaka (artist) for Death Note, Hikaru No Go and Blue Dragon - Ral Grado.

Bakuman's storyline is about how two boys, Mashiro and Takagi, who dream big about being mangakas! And at the same time, Mashiro has a thing for his classmate, Azuki, and promised to marry her once they become a big hit in the world of manga!

I'm really inspired not only by the storyline, but the thoughts and determination of the characters. Not to mention the naiveness in Mashiro and Azuki, who have been in close proximity with each other for so long, yet spoke so little. It's so pure and sweet!~ I enjoy reading this manga, and i would recommend this to you if you're looking for a manga to indulge in... though, it's still in progress.

Personally, i would want to do my best in work, as well as excelling in my relationship with Melissa D. Well, i guess i just need to do my best, and leave the rest to God, eh?

Rojak Series #20

I've been blogging for awhile, and there's just so many things i want to write about! So, here's another Rojak Series for you!~

1. Selamat Hari Raya

To all my friends out there celebrating this festive season, Maaf Zahir dan Batin! And please do go and come back safely. Remember, not to blow out your fingers or head with illegal fireworks!~

To those enjoying the long weekend, i hope you had a great time relaxing or visiting others. And don't blow your fingers or head with firecrackers!

2. KL Trip

Had a good time with family and friends two weekends ago, and i've returned here safely. Papa was not feeling well, and this time around, i didn't manage to visit Aunty Sally.

Good news is that i got to catch up with my former classmates in UTAR; Pek Mei, Lily, Yen Yen, Grace, Alex, and Chee Been, who (except for Pek Mei) i have not seen in months! And it was great meeting up and chatting with Ms Sharon as well.

Not to forget makan with David, Dewgem, Baby G, and Justin Tan; and Justin and Kevan.

Hopefully, i can come back one more time at the end of the year.

And note: sometimes, good things are not cheap and cheap things are not good. This echoes loudly for 'factory rejected' Crocs shoes.

3. Radiant Kids Club retreat

Recently, i was up in at Bethel House Of Prayer in Penang Hill for a one-night retreat. I'm currently a teacher in the church's children ministry and this retreat was a time of reflection and to set the ministry's vision for next year.

I have to admit, even though i'm not keen on serving here for the long term, but i'm staying on for the pre-teens, for now. There's a need there, and i'm doing this as an act of worship to God.

The retreat was spirit filled with Bro Michael and Sis Hannah leading the sessions and praying and prophesying over us. But there were light moments as well, including watching the guys singing Jason Mraz's I'm Yours in Hokkien, playing with the dogs, Durian and Rambutan, as well as watching the view of the island and mainland under the nutmeg tree.

4. Relationships

I'm happy and sad at the same time when i'm writing this.

I'm happy for those who are in one (like Melissa D and me; Clictus and Esther; Charis and Ben, etc), those getting married (Kevan and Angeline), those living the married life (Justin and Sher-Mayne, etc) and those who are mutually good after breaking up.

But i'm disheartened to see how two people, who were so closed to each other and promised their lives to one another, can turn out to be enemies, with one bitching about another publicly!

Sometimes, there're proper ways to resolve things; washing your dirty linen in public isn't one of them. *sigh*

Anyway, the week has just began... have a good week ahead!~

It comes knocking....

One of the worries i'm currently facing is where on earth should a house. Well, maybe this could be peer-pressure from my buddies Justin and Kevan, who each have purchased their own places. Or maybe i'm just going through a phase of life where i feel like settling down.

But seriously, this is one of issues that both Melissa D and i need to tackle before we proceed to the next step of the courtship; among other things.

I think just praying for a place to stay isn't suffice. The prayer should be specific and we ourselves should put in effort in looking for a place.

Looking at locations, we hope to get (at least) a condominium with a pool (and gym) in somewhere in Taman Linear, Bukit Gambir or Pulau Tikus.

A place which could be opened for Cell Group meetings or even to just hang out with friends and family.

But whether we would buy the place or rent it, isn't another issue altogether. But we're leaving it in God's hands; to help us in getting a place we can call "Home Sweet Home".

Random Post.

To state the obvious, i love Melissa D.

I love her for her, and the fact that she loves me for me. There're many idiosyncrasies of mine which annoys her, and vice versa, but by making love as both a choice and a feeling, it almost matters not.

We've been together for over a year and a month; and here's to many months ahead!

By the way, Up is a really good movie to watch! A must watch for 2009. I don't mind getting the original DVD for keeps, or watching it at the cinema again - it's that good!

Might be coming down this weekend. Will see how things go....

Anyway, have a good week ahead!

Friendship Carnival (Ver 1.0)

I can't believe it's September already!~ In a few weeks' time, it'll be Hari Raya, followed by Deepavali... Christmas and when you realise it, 2010 is here!~

Anyway, i've uploaded the photos, taken by Dr Matt Gan here on the blog (Thanks, dude!)

The Friendship Carnival, organised by the Reservoir Garden Baptist Church and JNPC (Joyful Nursery Preschool Centre), was held in conjunction with the church's 44th anniversary.

Held at Youth Park on Aug 23 (during the Permatang Pasir by-election), our CG was in-charge of the Captain Ball tournament held that day. And since it's raining season, it pour and pour and pour that day.

Those who were present were moving to the beat at the auditorium in Youth Park? I think this was about 9am, when the drizzle started.

Pastor Koe Choon Huan, senior pastor to RGBC, giving his opening speech.

Kids playing.... some game.

The food stalls opened that morning, which i failed to visit as i was busy looking after the tournament.

Pastor Thom, Joshua Lam, Henry, Alan, Hon Yin, Wai Kuan and myself were the referees for the games, while Melissa D and her cousin Charis took down the scores. Credit goes to Pastor Danny who invested a lot of time, not only for the tournament, but other aspects of the carnival.

Part of the Captain Ball action!

Even the heavy rain did not dampen these players, who are on fire!

This was how heavy the rain was... and how muddy the court was as the participants continue to play!

At the end of it all, team Anonymous, which comprised mostly of Malaysian living in Australia, dominated the whole tournament, leaving many younger ones disappointed.

Me with one of the Captain Ball balls. Originally, three of them were Volley Ball balls, and after a week of intense training, they turn out to be good, reliable Captain Ball balls! Well done!

But at the end of the day, it's all good!

By 12pm, the carnival drew to an end... despite feeling tired, it was worth all the effort put in! I guess there wouldn't be an event like this next year... but i don't mind helping out again.

Watch 15Malaysia

This is one of the most interesting website to check out - 15Malaysia (www.15malaysia.com) - a project consisting of 15 short films by 15 Malaysian film makers (including the late Yasmin Ahmad).

The films are released one in a few days, each with a length of one minute to about five minutes. Not to mentioned, it's downloadable too!

Among the first few i've watched were Potong Saga by Ho Yuhang and Halal, by Liew Seng Tat. Both of them are funny, but Melissa D and i think the former is better.

Here are the videos:

Potong Saga

Halal

Now, i'm looking forward to the release of Meter and Healthy Paranoia.

And just now, we've watched House by Linus Chung. We're reminded of the infamous Kampung Buah Pala here, which demolition is looming by soon as the villagers are to evacuate by end of this month.

House

Well, i wonder what they'll do this time. Another human barricade? Another showdown with the developer? Another drama of finger pointing when they do not receive help? We'll find out on Sept 1.

So, on a lighter note, enjoy those short clips on 15Malaysia.

Another victory for PR, but it's status quo.

Unless you've been living under a rock or have totally tuned out the country's politics, Penang PAS commissioner Mohd Salleh Man is now the Permatang Pasir assemblyman after beating his rival, BN candidate Rohaizat Othman in the by-election. He won with a reduced majority of 4551 votes for the state seat. Read HERE for more details.

The newly elected Permatang Pasir assemblyman (YB) Mohd Salleh Man. Beside him is Deputy Chief Minister (I) Mansor Othman, who won the Penanti state seat end of May this year.

Salleh Man is a nice, humble, soft-spoken guy, who my boss liken him to Yogi Bear. But i believe he needs time to prove himself worthy not only to his Permatang Pasir constituents but to the Pakatan Rakyat state government here as well.

PAS candidate Mohd Salleh Man trying to flip a roti canai during his campaign trail in Taman Samagagah in Permatang Pasir. With him (on the right) were PKR's Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Sim Tze Tzin and Machang Bubuk assemblyman Tan Hock Leong.

Being part of the team in throughout the by-election was an add-on to experiences i had with by-elections since coming here to the island, and i still have a lot to learn. Tiring, but fun.

Anyway, last Sunday, the church had its Friendship Carnival in conjunction with its 44th Anniversary at the Youth Park. Melissa D, Joshua Lam and myself, together with Courage CG were in-charge of the Captain Ball tournament.

Even before the matches start, it was cloudy, and as we carried out, it started to rain, and pour and pour and pour. But we just carried on. Looks like the rain didn't dampen the spirit of those Captain Ball players out there.

And the Volley Ball balls were trained well to be Captain Ball balls! HAHAHA!~

Will try and upload photos from the event if possible.

Anywya, going off now to watch G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra with Melissa D now! Looks like a storm is coming. Gotta go!

New laptop! (Ver 1.1)

Finally, we got a new laptop!

Two Saturdays ago, Melissa D and i got a Compaq Presario CQ35 at the PC Fair held in PISA for slightly above RM2,000. After considering the budget, taking in views from our friends and opinions from 'experts', we've decided to go with it.

And surprise surprise, we actually on this laptop a few days ago. I installed both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox not too long ago. And now i'm blogging on this new laptop!

Fiddled around with a few programmes here, and even took a picture with the built-in webcam!

Melissa D and me!

I'm still getting used to this laptop, and i don't think either of us will be bringing this baby out anytime soon... unless deemed necessary.

On another note, the Permatang Pasir by-elections have began, and there's lots of running around. Polling Day falls on next Tuesday. And the Friendship Carnival is coming up this Sunday!

Spending a lot of time on Facebook, Mouse Hunt in particular, and little time to chat online or blog (and read blogs). Will have to try manage my time properly... and i do look forward to coming back to KL, by the end of this month or early next month.

Well, gotta run. Stomach's not queasy. Well, good night!

Seeing my dear smile.

I love to see Melissa D smile. Innocent, sweet, simple and lovely smile. I just love it!

But it breaks my heart when there're people around her who makes her cry (sometimes, i'm the culprit!)

But recently, a friend of hers have hurt her. I didn't know that this person would turn out like that - uncooperative, selfish and glory-seeking, which sidelined Melissa D, making her bitter.

I knew this person was somewhat sarcastic, whinny and pessimistic, but this selfish! Then, i heard from other friends that this person is like that, and this friend is not a favourite among them, to the extend that one commented, "this bitch is now with them."

I still consider this friend, a friend, but i wouldn't look at this fellow the same way anymore. The good thing is Melissa D is no longer bitter towards this individual, and i pray that this person can change, if possible.

But as a boyfriend, i pray that i am able to do my best to bring a smile and comfort to my dear.

On another note, both of us got a new laptop - Compaq, which was affordable; the state assembly meeting is over and the Permatang by-election is coming up on Aug 17, with the Friendship Carnival on Aug 23.  So much to do, so little time.

"...And then I see you, baby
And everything's alright,
everything's alright

When I see you smile
I can face the world, oh oh,
you know I can do anything
When I see you smile
I see a ray of light, oh oh,
I see it shining right through the rain
When I see you smile
Oh yeah, baby when I see you smile at me..."

One after another!

Boy, there's a lot of things going on here on the island!

Yesterday, the Kampung Buah Pala continue to stand, as its 100-plus villagers gets another chance to stand and fight for their land (or pack up their belongings) before the developer comes blazing to demolish the 'High Chapparal' on Friday!

The death of Permatang Pasir assemblyman Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman will pave way for another by-election. This will be the third by-election on the island, since the Permatang Pauh by-election (won by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the Penanti state seat, which saw the victory of Mansor Othman, now the Deputy Chief Minister (I).

The Election Commission is expected to announce the nomination and polling dates by Monday, Aug 10.

Speaking of the assemblymen, they will be convening their meeting next Monday and Tuesday (Aug 10 and 11) on the island. Let's hope it wouldn't be a hectic one!

Friendship Carnival at the Youth Park on Aug 23, where Melissa D, Joshua Lam and i are in-charge of Captain Ball. With the day looming by fast, things need to be prepared soon. And with God's strength, we can do it!

Both Melissa D and i are looking forward to watching G.I. Joe and Ghost of Girlfriends' Past at the cinemas. The last movies we watched were Land of the Lost and Ice Age 3, which were both funny. We prefer Ice Age 3 and Land of the Lost was plain lame!

Anyway, gotta go home, and get more sleep!

I can't believe that both Melissa D and i have been through this courtship for a year!

It feels surreal, but i thank God for my blessing. There are a lot of room for improvement for the both of us, but with God's mercy and grace, we can do it!~

I LOVE YOU DEAR!~ Happy Anniversary!~

Saying goodbye... yet?

I gotta admit - i'm careless.

Careless enough to lock my keys in the car, leave my notebook in the office when i'm out for assignments and dropping my mobile phone every now and then. And now my mobile phone (BlackCell, as i call it) is acting up.

It is covered with dents and hairline cracks. Yesterday, one of those crack, the one near the joint, became severe and it's somewhat disrupting the 'flipping process'. *sigh*

So, i'm currently comtempalating, if i should get a new mobile phone now or just continue using this till it breaks down... hopefully by next April. Should i continue using Sony Ericsson or another brand. Should i say goodbye to my phone now?

Speaking of goodbyes, contreversial film director Yasmin Ahmad recently passed away. May she rest in peace. Her movies and commercials are simple touching and amazing!

Oh, and today we have the second death related to the Influenza A(H1N1) in the country. I wish these idiots had when to the doctor immediately once they were not feeling well. But no, they took days to seek treatment, when they've somewhat passed the point of no return!

The same advice goes to all feeling sick recently! Get help early!

Well, gotta survey a little on what mobile phone i should get. And what laptop should i get?

I can’t believe that I stayed till today
There’s nothing here in this heart left to borrow
There’s nothing here in this soul left to say..."

And the Demon dragon swallowed the Sun!

Millions in India and China were in awe at the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century! All this occurred today. And from here, we were able to see a partial solar eclipse from between 8.23am to 9.48am.

Though, i didn't get to see it since i was on the way to work and had no proper equipment to look at the sun without burning off my corneas.

It's interesting to read about superstitions and fables that an eclipse happens when a dragon-demon swallows the sun, while its rays then can harm unborn children.

A total solar eclipse is seen in Varanasi, India, Wednesday, July 22, 2009. The longest solar eclipse of the 21st century pitched a swath of Asia from India to China into near darkness Wednesday as millions gathered to watch the phenomenon. (AP Photo/Saurabh Das)

Anyway, i was reminded of the TV series Heroes when i heard about news on this eclipse. About how individuals got their abilities... which has something to do with this natural phenomena.

So, can i now fly? No.
Teleport from one place to another? No.
Read minds? No.
Shoot electricity from my palms? No.

I guess i'm stuck with my abilities as a lame duck. Melissa D can attest to that. *sigh*

Anyway, i suppose the next solar eclipse can be seen on Jan 15, 2010, March 9, 2016 and Dec 26, 2019! Keep those dates free, ya?!

Congrats!

Angeline and Kevan

"We're engaged!" This was what was stated on the screen as i read Kevan's text message. Earlier in the week, he told us that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend Angeline.

Early this morning, both of them went jogging up Taman Tar. Up, a group of guys ('choirboys' and photographer) were waiting there, to witness Kevan proposed to Angeline. And things went as planned!

Congratulations, both Melissa D and i wish them. Heard that they plan to get married next year! All the best!

Back from Cameron... and now to work! (Part 2)

I wanted to post this up earlier, but i was stuck with work. As the matter of fact, i'm somewhat still stuck with work, waiting with my boss and other counterparts in Komtar, as Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng have a heart-to-heart talk with several residents of the Kampung Buah Pala... which will be demolished early August.

As the saga unfolds, since the 'illegal lands transfer' back in 2001, there were a lot of politics being played, harsh words exchanged, finger-pointing and many sad cows... and cow herders.

So, sitting down in Komtar, a lot of talks on the fate of this 'High Chapparal' as well as the death of the Selangor state exco aide, who plunged to his death. Poor Teoh... dying on the eve of his engagement. I pray neither i or Melissa D will ever have to face something like this.

Anyway, i'm just trying to chill and type out ten reasons why i enjoyed the recent CG retreat in Cameron Highlands. And in no particular order, here are the reasons;

1. Chocolate-dipped strawberries.
2. The fellowship between CG members.
3. Urban Legend board game!
4. The strawberry ice-cream... and not the creamy-flavoured one
5. The cool- freezing breeze.
6. Photo-taking sessions.
7. The road trip - to and from.
8. Purchase of various strawberry products!
9. Makan time... both in Ipoh and Cameron.
10. Suffering from diarrhea for two days isn't one of them. (Ok... i ran out of ideas!)

Gotta go... nothing much here from the private, closed-door discussion. Good night!~

Back from Cameron... and now to work!

Boy, did we had a good time in Cameron Highlands over the weekend! The Courage CG retreat was good! (And too bad for those who couldn't make it. Maybe next time?)

Besides the fact that there was little time, and too many places to go, I enjoyed being on the (high)land of strawberries, tea, and fresh veggies. Not to forget that we bought too many strawberry products back home - from freshly packed ones and dried variants to chocolates and tea infused with that red berries. And i can't believe i still have strawberry milk and ice-cream in the fridge!~

Oh, and did you know that 30 hectares of land in Cameron Highlands grown with strawberries is capable of producing RM70 million worth of the fruit each year? Shocking!

We had discussion on where our CG is heading, and i wish we had more time to give more ideas, discuss them throughly and allow those who can't come voice out their opinion. *sigh* It's not like i'm going against the current leadership here, but i wish more things can be done.

I personally did not like how things were carried out in my KL church, where, despite having plans, meetings and group discussions, at the end of the day, the decisions made are veto - by the youth top leader.

From this i learn - don't argue with church leaders, they are humans too. Just get things done, if you can.

Anyway, it's back to work now. Will post up more photos, if possible.

Cameron HIghlands, here we come!

I've got so many things to write, but so little time. Not to mention, being in this line of work, i run of mood (or rather, words!) to type the time i submit in my work.
*sigh*

In a few hour's time, most of us from the church cell group, including Melissa D and myself, will be heading down to Cameron Highlands for our CG retreat! Looking forward to it! Will post pictures.

Anyway, in briefs:

1. Watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with Melissa D; and i agree with most people that it is OVERRATED! But having said that, i enjoyed watching it for the action scenes. The only problem i had was my seat had issues, and we had to move.

2. Got some comments on Kampung Buah Pala and the sunken road near Gurney Park Condominium... both on the island here. Got pictures of both incidents. Hope to upload them soon!

3. Heard about the news of two Catholics lodging a police report against two men (non-believers) who 'spied' in a KL Catholic church? I wonder if this issue would blow out of proportion?

Anyway... gotta go! Good night and have a nice weekend!

Will watch this one of these days.

Anyway, gonna watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with Melissa D now. Heard mixed reviews, but i'm watching it to chill out lah!

Paying more?

I can't believe i have to pay an extra RM30 for power and water bills for the past two months living in this flat on the island.

Before moving into this place, i was told that RM240 included the utility bills, and now the 'landlord' denied this. *sigh* And my former housemates were the ones who leaves the lights on unnecessarily.

Anyway, i'm considering looking for another place to stay. One which is below RM300, in the central part of the island, with a parking lot and a swimming pool. A gym would be a plus.

But i'm currently content with the place i'm staying in. But i would need to conserve as much electricity possible.

On another note, No Plastic Day, an initiative by the state government here, starts today. (click HERE for more details on the news.) Those who would want to use plastic bags to bag their goods would have to pay an 20 sen per plastic bag, every Monday. And the proceeds would go to the hardcore poor program here. Noble, eh?

Living here, i've learnt to reduce the usage of plastic bags as much as possible. And while shopping for mushroom potage and bread nearby my place just now, i was surprised to see the shoppers in front of me paid 20 sen and 40 sen for plastic bags! I can't how many people would actually pay for plastic bags than to use their own shopping bag.

The coin box used to collect the 20 sen per plastic bag on No Plastic Bag Day today.

Well, i believe in using plastic bags only for disposal, but i believe the public need to learn more on reducing the use of plastic... or their ignorance could cost our environment, which is at stake. What a price to pay.

I wanna see how effective this environmental-friendly effort would be.
